As I have posted in the past I’m trying to get to the gym on a regular basis and lose some weight. One thing that is helping me do that is taking some Les Mills classes at the gym.
Les Mills is series of high energy, choreographed, group exercise classes that gets your blood pumping.
The first Les Mills class I took was RPM (cycling). It was just by chance that I took it as it was just about to start as I arrived at the gym so I thought to myself, why not. It was just my luck that it happened to be the 75 minute version instead of the standard 50 minute version. I didn’t know what to expect but I went through with it anyways and I was glad I did.
Each class is choreographed to take you through various challenges and is accompanied by licensed music (past and present hits). Though each class is choreographed it doesn’t get stale as new routines are created every three months. The instructors also receive training and are great at keeping you motivated through the workout, even if you think you won’t make it.
The second class I took was BodyPump (this class incorporates a barbell into the exercises). I didn’t enjoy this class as much as RPM, mainly because it consisted of a lot of lunges and squats (my two least favourite exercises). But, I must admit it did get me doing things I wouldn’t normally do on my own.
The third class I took was BodyCombat (an aerobic exercise routine that incorporates moves from various fighting and martial arts disciplines) and it was my favourite by far. This class is super high energy and was challenging for me but I enjoyed every minute of it. I don’t think I sweated as much as I did during that class than I ever have in the past. I also felt it in the morning as nearly every muscle in my body was sore.
There are many other Les Mills classes you can choose from if any of those don’t appeal to you so if you have the chance to take a Les Mills class I would highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed.
